Posterior chamber phakic IOL implantation has become an essential skill for refractive and anterior segment surgeons because it offers a reversible, high-quality visual correction option for patients with moderate to high myopia, thin corneas, or contraindications to corneal refractive surgery.
By placing the lens behind the iris and in front of the natural crystalline lens, PC phakic IOLs maintain corneal integrity, provide superior optical quality, and preserve accommodation.
Mastering this technique expands a surgeon’s refractive portfolio, enhances safety and predictability for challenging cases, and allows better long-term outcomes for patients unsuitable for LASIK or PRK.

The Yamane technique, a sutureless intrascleral fixation method for posterior chamber IOLs, has become a key skill for cataract and anterior segment surgeons dealing with eyes without capsular support. By creating two transconjunctival scleral tunnels and externalizing the haptics, it allows secure, well-centered IOL fixation without sutures or glue, reducing surgical time and long-term suture-related complications.
Learning this technique equips surgeons with a versatile, minimally invasive option for secondary or complex IOL implantation, improving postoperative stability, refractive predictability, and patient outcomes.

Mastering the iris-claw IOL technique is increasingly important for cataract and anterior segment surgeons because it provides a reliable, relatively quick, and reversible solution for eyes lacking adequate capsular support.
Unlike scleral-fixated or anterior chamber IOLs, iris-claw implantation involves shorter surgical time, fewer sutures, and predictable centration, making it valuable in trauma, complicated cataract, and aphakia cases.
Familiarity with this method expands a surgeon’s options for complex situations, improves visual rehabilitation for patients, and reduces the risks associated with more invasive fixation procedures.

The INDEPTH 2025 Meeting, organized by INASCRS, features a dedicated workshop on Capsular Tension Ring (CTR) implantation designed to enhance participants’ skills in managing zonular weakness during cataract surgery.
Held on 7 November 2025 at Pullman Hotel Jakarta, the wet-lab session combines a brief evidence-based overview of CTR indications, types, and insertion techniques with supervised hands-on practice using eye models. Experienced faculty guide attendees through safe implantation maneuvers and complication management, aiming to build confidence and improve outcomes in challenging cataract cases.

The phacoemulsification wet-lab offers participants an intensive, skills-focused opportunity to refine modern cataract extraction techniques.
Combining a concise review of fluidics, energy modulation, and incision strategies with supervised hands-on practice, the workshop enables attendees to master safe nucleus disassembly, efficient cortical cleanup, and complication prevention.
Guided by expert faculty, this session aims to strengthen surgical confidence and improve patient outcomes, especially in complex or high-volume cataract cases.
