Posterior chamber phakic IOL implantation has become an essential skill for refractive and anterior segment surgeons because it offers a reversible, high-quality visual correction option for patients with moderate to high myopia, thin corneas, or contraindications to corneal refractive surgery. By placing the lens behind the iris and in front of the natural crystalline lens, PC phakic IOLs maintain corneal integrity, provide superior optical quality, and preserve accommodation. Mastering this technique expands a surgeon’s refractive portfolio, enhances safety and predictability for challenging cases, and allows better long-term outcomes for patients unsuitable for LASIK or PRK.
